08 Oct Ways Vibration Technology Can Help You
Have you seen the latest addition to our front lobby? The vibration plate is quickly becoming a favorite for many of our clients. The vibration plate releases vibration of variable speed and type throughout your body while you are standing on it.
Vibration technology offers benefits such as improved bone density, improved balance, weight loss (Yes – you read that correctly!) and more!
How does it work?
While standing on the vibration plate your muscles begin to contract as many as fifty times a second, but with small movements. These involuntary movements stimulate your muscles more than a typical workout would, with little additional effort. You can either just stand on the vibration plate, or you can perform workouts.
Vibration technology was first introduced in the 1800’s. In 1895 Dr. John Harvey Kellogg (Yep, the same guy that makes your Corn Flakes) created a vibration chair that he claimed could cure any ailment. The Space Race in the 1960’s propelled the technology forward. Russian space scientists quickly realized that zero gravity conditions caused severe deterioration of bone mineral density (BMD) and muscle tissue of their cosmonauts. They began using whole body vibration and the cosmonauts returned from orbit with the same bone density and muscle strength as when they left.
While current studies show consistent use of the vibration plate can increase BMD and muscle strength, other benefits have been identified also.
Additional Benefits of Using a Vibration Plate
Improved Balance
Hip tightness and weakness along with a lack of nervous system flexibility can contribute to balance issues. While standing on the vibration plate the muscles in your hips engage and contract helping to increase hip strength and flexibility which improves your balance.
Weight loss
According to a study done by the European Association for the Study of Obesity participants who used the vibration technology along with diet and exercise lost 11% of their body weight versus the group who did diet and exercise lost an average of 7%.
Improved Blood Flow & Lymphatic Flow
After doing a session on the vibration plate you may notice your legs feel itchy. This is because you have stimulated the venous system within the muscles that transport blood back to your heart. Improved blood circulation helps your lymphatic system to remove metabolic waste at a faster pace.
Stronger & Toned Muscles
The vibration platform transmits energy throughout your body causing your muscles to rapidly contract and relax. This micro-movements help to build strength. You can increase this outcome by performing strength exercises such as squats, push-ups, lunges, etc. while on the platform
With all those benefits, who would not want to give the vibration plate a try?
